how to speak ill of the dead
when a monster dies it is antihuman to grieve him (or her when joanne rowling dies).
but it is not entirely wrong to grieve something. after all you can look at the pernicious and poisonous systems that sustain these men. you can grieve the culture of impunity that gives them shelter. you can grieve the conditions under and through which they operate and are never brought to account. you can grieve the many people they oppress and main and kill. you can grieve many many many things.
but never them!
if there is a hell (and i do not believe there is) these men should be sent there. but i fear hell itself is simply our best way of dealing with a world that does not seem to punish the wicked--we see this in psalm 92 where the author makes claims that are simply not borne out in any reality that i've ever heard of. this is hope or cope or whatever you want to call it.
but simply hoping is not enough; i would like to live in a world where these sorts of evil men are held accountable at the very least. i dunno what makes that happen.
