how to lose without honour

Midwest Existentialism sums up the red card sitch way better than i ever could:

This US soccer team red card fiasco is such a perfect example of how Donald Trump ruins everything that he touches. Everybody who saw what Balogun did knows that it was red card worthy. Cleats up, like straight into the foot, man. Yeah, it was bad.

Take your licks, lose the game if you're going to lose the game, but lose it with honor, right? Everybody is aware that FIFA is massively corrupt. Everybody knows that Gianni is like massively corrupt.

But pulling out a call from Trump to him to be like, "Hey, let Balogun play," and then they change the red card policy basically just for this is insane. It takes the loss that the US was probably going to have ... from being like, "Hey, we tried, we lost with honour, we played our our hearts out, you know, it is what it is," to we are a corrupt team from a corrupt country being represented by a corrupt man.

And it takes a loss that would have been an LOL, it was kind of embarrassing, good try, like the Americans are playing football again, to an embarrassing loss for a bunch of reasons. He pulled strings that other countries can't pull to try to get us into the—keep us in the tournament, keep us in the game. And we lost embarrassingly. We should feel like a sense of shame about that, and that's how Trump ruins everything.

it goes on for a bit after that but that's the gist. and he's right.
