how to live in sepia
the apocalypse continues. real slow though. slower than i would have thought. that meme of the guy trying desperately to escape a steamroller ("far side" comic? fever dream?). that guy is to be quite clear an idiot. and i resent being cast as the idiot but what else to say? i know better but can do nothing. i want better but cannot make but small hyperlocal improvements-- small flutterings of the hands and facial tics and little trumpetings--which is to say that society has idiotized me. it is imposed. i am made.
my air purifier keeps kicking itself into overdrive. the air is not good here. this is the best i can hope to do. to keep a small room relatively breathable while the four horsemen rumble (they have subwoofers all) by my window.
the amount of smoke in the air chokes off all colours but yellow and orange. i walked into a corner store yesterday and so used to the sepia filter was i that the led lighting inside seemed portaled in from another different world. a blue world. weird!
something is ending. probably not the world. the actual physical world is doing just fine and will keep doing fine until the sun does that thing where it expands and expands until the oceans boil and eventually the whole thing gets engulfed and disassembled and turned into starlight.
at least that's what they think will happen. might go on forever though. if it's lucky. or unlucky.
something is ending though. a new world struggles to be born. many of the worlds that sit atop the physical world (be they mental worlds or the sort of gated community worlds that parasitize other more significant worlds).
this is the second year in a row that the skies have become choked with wildfire smoke. our premier (for americans: imagine a different country (if you can) with states called provinces and governors called premiers and also there's a different flag and the money's all weird and plastic and brighly coloured) is both incompetent and a criminal and has cut the firefighting services. he's doing a fundraising dinner while the north burns. he's a vulgar man voted in by a vulgar populace who seem to be ok with whatever. as long as we can still drive our increasingly ginormous gasguzzlers through eightlane crosstown stroads highway style. as long as things don't get too bad.
oops.
