crank magnetism is a thing. it's a mark hoofnagle coinage circa 2007ce. mark hoofnagle is despite all indications not a muppet.
crank magnetism is the condition where people become attracted to multiple crank ideas at the same time. crank magnetism also denotes the tendency — even for otherwise "lone issue" cranks — to accumulate more crank beliefs over time
there exists i believe a similar condition in chuddom that i like to call chud magnetism (or chudmaxxing? ugh. i super hate that!)
once you start--often with transphobia or islamophobia--with a little bigotry you tend to accumulate more of them. a rolling chud gathers more chud as it were.
you could start with a hit of seemingly harmless clash-of-cultures via our good friend el*n m*sk's nazi forum and then ten years later you're bent over on the street corner huffing its-ok-to-kill-gazan-babies while some iron-cross-tatted dumbbell tries to sell you the latest designer we-need-more-white-babies.
and while you're thinking this is pretty farfetched stuff i'm here to tell you i've seen this happen. and not just to joanne rowling but to people i actually know.
